Rembrandt van Rijn is considered as one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art and the most important in Dutch history.

Biography: Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669)

His works came to dominate what has since been named the Dutch Golden Age. One of the most revered artists of all time, Rembrandt's greatest creative triumphs are seen in his portraits of his contemporaries, illustrations of biblical scenes and self-portraits as well as his innovative etchings and use of shadow and light. Along with Vermeer, Rembrandt is considered as two most important artists of Dutch Golden Age.

Early Life

His father, who was a miller by profession, made sure that his son attended school.

However, at Leiden University, he did not complete school. Instead, he apprenticed to a painter for three years.
